Author's Review
Having twins made it very important for me to have a fast and easy way to sterilize bottles, considering that I do not have a dishwasher and went through about a dozen bottles a day. I started with boiling them on the stove top. It was very time consuming and as they sat bobbing in the water, I just did not have the feeling that the bottles were REALLY sterile. Plus, removing them from the scorching water was scary. I bought the Avent Microwave Steam Sterilizer and what a difference! It requires nothing fancy; no cords, no batteries and not a lot of extras to keep track of. The apparatus itself is basically just a plastic top and bottom that snap together and a plastic tray insert. Add water and it sterilizes up to five complete 8 or 9 oz. bottles at a time, and more if you use the smaller ounce bottles. The bottles are steamed inside the unit, inside the microwave and the whole process start to finish takes less than ten minutes. Five minutes on "high" to steam and about 2 minutes after, with lid still on, to cool off. The outside it will be very hot and there will be hot steam inside, so remove with pot holders and especially no kids under your feet. Allow the cooling time to assure sterilization and open with care. All in all, not only was it a time saver, it saved me money on my electric bill, by not having to use the stove element on and off all day and all night. Used properly I found it to be the safest and easiest way to sterilize not only bottles of different brand names, but also microwave safe items such as pacifiers. I highly recommend this to not only parents of multiples, but to anyone that wants a quick, easy and safe way to sterilize bottles.
