No Frills and Does The Job -- At-A-Glance Recycled Desk Pad
Date of Review: Nov 7, 2007
The Bottom Line: An affordable desk calendar that works for us.
I purchase the calendars at work. Each year, one of the calendars most requested is the
At-A-Glance Recycled Desk Pad. I've used it myself and thought I'd share our experiences.
Description This is a basic one-color calendar with black ink on white paper. It measures 22" x 17". The calendar has a piece of cardboard on the back and is bound at the top to hold the calendar pages. There are also two black vinyl triangular pieces at each bottom corner to hold the pages in place.
There is one page for each month of the year. At the top of each page is a long, horizontal narrow area for notes. The days of the week go from Sunday through Saturday. Each day block measures 2 3/8" high x 2 7/8" wide, and they are lined. Across the bottom of each page is a miniature block for each month of the year, running in a horizontal band. At the center of this block, in bold print, is the day of the month and the year.
Another feature is that the calendar includes holidays (noted in the day blocks). It also counts down how many days are left in the year. Each day block has a notation (ex: 17/349). This means it is day 17 in the year with 349 more days left in the year.
This calendar is non-refillable and is manufactured from recycled paper with 30% post-consumer material. It also has two eyelets for hanging if you prefer to use it as a wall calendar versus a desk pad.
Our Experiences We use these calendars in the desk-pad format and do not hang them on the wall. Those of us who use desk pad style calendars like this one. It is a no frills calendar that sees lots of note-taking, date reminders, and creative doodling. We also like that the entire month is visible at a glance.
Writing with ballpoint pen or pencil works best on this paper. Sharpie markers might leave dots of ink on the pages beneath. Since this calendar is in black ink on white paper, it is also convenient to use different colored inks to color-code various meetings. Not everyone does this, but it's a great way to see at a glance what type of meetings are scheduled and for what group. The day squares offer plenty of room to write, too.
The pages easily tear from the calendar. However, the cardboard backing is on the flimsy side. That doesn't bother us since it is still easy to write on the calendar page even when down to the month of December.
The way the vinyl triangular pieces are positioned at the bottom of the calendar allows visibility of the entire month. One or two dates might be covered in the horizontal band of months running along the bottom of the calendar
but that's it. The way this calendar is designed, it is easy to view.
Purchasing W.B. Mason normally sells these calendars for $8.69 each (a bit expensive in my opinion). However, my W.B. Mason representative knocked the price down to $1.69 each with no minimum order. I was delighted!
Summary If you are looking for a no frills calendar, then consider the
At-A-Glance Recycled Desk Pad
especially if you can buy them at a bargain price.
