Product Review

Arcade games that doesn't require a quarter - must be limited.

by   fahq ,   Jun 21, 2001

Pros:  Defender

Cons:  Joust

The Bottom Line:  An Arcade Game that shouldn't have been published into any systems at the first place.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

Introduction

Joust & Defender is simply just a waste of money - Even if you play it in arcades. I can understand why people liked it back then (because arcade games are very limited, until NES came out). But I can't understand how people still like these crap now... Goto Yahoo, type in Joust or Defender, and you'll find a site where you can download them for free, instead of wasting your money on such bullturd.

Pros:

The game I haven't had trouble going through was Defender. (You know, a little spaceship, flying around the "scrolling mountains", and destroy the bad guys... Then what?) -Fast scrolling, fast action, easy to control.

Cons

The game I HAVE TROUBLE GOING THROUGH was Joust. I have NO IDEA how the hell to control this guy. First of all, you have keep tapping A or B constantly for countless times to get him up. Just 'cause of that, this game becomes very hard, almost impossible to beat. CAN'T THEY JUST MAKE IT SIMPLE SO ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TO HOLD THE DAMN BUTTON?!

Best Played With/Intended For:

Umm... Well to be real honest with ya (which I always am), they're the same thing - Multiplayer or just Single. Same BAD GRAPHICS, HORRIBLE NOISE (I mean, Sound FX). Unless you play Defender, which is very pointless and should be better if you just play a single player.

Learning Curve:

Learning how to play games like these shouldn't be a problem even if you're a 10 years old. Their programming's so simple playing it 's even simpler.

Replay Value:

It's SO POINTLESS to play this game again! uHHH! Once you win the first level, you just HAVE to turn it off because THE SECOND LEVEL'S COMPLETELY THE SAME!! Once you finish the second level it's IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT TURN IT OFF BECAUSE the third level's COMPLETELY THE SAME AS LEVEL 2, WHICH IS COMPLETELY SAME AS LEVEL 1!

Graphics:

I gave the graphics a failing mark because of Joust. First of all, as usual of what happens what occurs when a GBC Game uses bad graphics - You can't really tell what some objects are. And when you die, you just fly off the screen, you don't see an animation of you dissapearing, or exploding, which is very confusing.
For Defender, though it looks a lot better, every object looks like it's not any thicker than a line drawn by AutoCAD, except colored.

Sound:

SOUND? What sound? Oh! That's what y'all call that noise happening in the game! Well I don't like it, and I don't think if you will, too. Why? Because everything's so repetitive! You press the button 10 times, it makes sound 10 times. It makes sound more times than the character actually does the action. That means if you press the A button 10 times, it makes the same sound 10 times, but the guy might only shoot 8 or 9 times because of the simple but slow & crappy animation.

Overall:

Let's just say I'll skip this part, and you can decide whether to buy this product or not. Thank you for reading my review.
