Works with more than just iPods
Date of Review: Dec 24, 2007
The Bottom Line: Pretty good for the size and price.
This product is a carrying case with two small speakers. It doesn't offer high definition surround sound, but I doubt anyone would expect it to. What it does offer is good stereo sound, especially for the size. It is marketed as an iPod accessory but will work with any comparably sized MP3 player. I have a Creative Zen Vision:M and this little system fits it perfectly.
The speakers are able to get fairly loud. There is some vibration at the top of the range, though. I find I get the best sound (depending on the song) by keeping the volume between 16 - 18.
When the MP3 player is in the device the front of the player faces out and is covered by a piece of clear plastic. I don't really care for this plastic covering. For my Zen, at least, it makes the controls difficult to use. I think it would be better if there were a fabric flap with velcro that closed over the front of the player. Then you could pull it back to easily access the controls, while still having something there to protect the face.
The construction is mostly good quality. There are some plastic parts that feel kind of cheap. In particular, the enclosure in which the MP3 player sits. I suspect these were chosen for weight factor. The device is already kind of heavy. The weight of the device by itself is close to a pound. This may not sound like much, but after a while you are going to start noticing the weight. If the enclosure where more solid it would probably add significantly to the weight.
