Author's Review
As a student starting college, a few things were very important to me in a laptop: Stability of the O.S., durability of the hardware, comfort of typing (think about all those long papers), and portability.
The MacBook (Black) has it all! A step up from the white MacBook, the black offers a better processor for faster computing, and a few media advantages. I also opted to double the memory and upgrade to a larger hard drive. Apple offers the tricked out computer factory sealed to dispel any worries about workmanship errors or making alterations to a well built computer.
Mac is a very study computer operating system, with almost no viruses in existence and none of the competitors unexpected, unprovoked crashes. The computer runs exceptionally well for a laptop, which is a delight to those familiar with computers and it means no headaches for people who are less familiar with technology. Since the laptop is housed in a thick, non-brittle plastic, it's ideal for a young owner who might put some external stress on it. Apple's warranty is void if there's any visible damage to the computer, so their aluminum MacBook Pro is a real risk (not to be taken by a student).
MacBook's flat keyboard may take a little getting used to, but the spaces between keys and levelness of the device makes speed typing (and cleaning) a little easier. The trackpad is easy to maneuver, and there are several options that may be applied to compensate for the lack of a second mouse button or scroll wheel. As far as portability, MacBook is rather light and manageable, with terrific battery life and a nice surface, smooth on the eyes but easy to hold onto. Also, MacBook comes with built in wireless connectivity.
