I got the iMac Fever, I got this to replace a PC with all its bugs, clunky, slowness. After the 3rd harddrive in less then 3 months on my PC went, I decided to try out something different.
My wife and I went to the mall and I was walking by the Apple store and for some unknown reason, I decided to stop in and see the computers they had in action.
The salesman walked up and asked if he could help and I said sure, I want him to demostrate a desktop computer, I do not really care for laptops, The screens are just not big enough for me to use as I like to run several programs at the same time and I also do alot of charts, graphs and word processing.
The salesman then gave a wonderful demostration on a iMac very similar to the type of work that I do alot. The iMac just aced it perfect the first time, now I am impressed so I tryed a word processing task of writing a letter, The machine took my picture and allowed me to add the picture to the document. I was now really impressed.
So I bought a iMac basic and then proceeded to buy iWork 08, the wireless Mighty Mouse, and a HP all in one printer. Since I work for a major local company I got a discount of 5% off on the iMac and printer 8% off on iWork and the mouse.
Well I felt a little embassassed when I got home and opened the box and looked in and saw no tower, then it occurred to me that the iMac is a all in one. The setup is just as easy as the other reviews. I really appreciated is there was absolutely no hard assembly required, just plug the computer in and it did all the rest.
Now that I have had the machine a month I am really impressed with the smooth interface that the machine has, one thing that really surprised me was how much I really like the keyboard, I have never had a keyboard that I only have to touch the keys and smooth easy touch typing that I have with this.
I did buy the Applecare extended warranty but with the high build quality that I have seen so far, I do not think that it will ever be needed, but since this is a all in one computer I think that it might come in handy in the future.
The other day I replaced the harddrive on the my old PC and my intent was to give this to my friend and I decided to do a little comparsion test, I had my wife select a favorite website and I then selected the same site. I allowed the PC to have a headstart the Apple smoked the PC in getting on the site and being finished bringing it up. This PC had the orginal program reinstalled and I had downloaded all the updates and installed them.
So now I am a Zombie on this Apple, I just cannot leave it alone as it just every task correctly.
If I could change anything is it would be for Apple to redesign the Mighty Mouse, It just doesn't fit the smooth manners of the computer or its keyboard. Maybe making the mouse more similar to the keyboard but it dies everything a good mouse needs to do, but one little thing I did was to disable the left lower button the mouse as my thumg kept tiling the screen when I did not want it to. I have limited feeling on my right thumb and I tend to squeeze the mouse just to hard. It was a simple manner to go into system perferences and reset the mouse the way I liked
Overall this the most expensive computer I have ever bought and I am really happy that I spent the money on this machine, it is not often that all the programs work right straight out of the box but Apple has really figured out how to do it.
I have yet to use technical support because if I had a question I just simply hit the help button and the answer was right there, thats impressive for me to not to have to sit on the phone and ask a question as the the computer answer it for me.
Now I know why Apple fanatic's are the way they are.
