Author's Review
Included with my new home was this stylish over-the-range Amana microwave. I've been using it for about a year now, and I have no complaints whatsoever with this great microwave. Here's some more detail on this model.
~ Product Description
The Amana UMV1152CA Microwave features 1000 watts of power. It is an over-the-range model, so it also includes a vent with grease filter and a cooktop light. The graphic depicting this model shows a stainless steel, or light colored body with black trim. Mine, however, is all black. It looks very stylish and sleek over my stainless steel/black range. Check out all the great features this model offers:
- 1.5 cu. ft. capacity
- Pre-programmed pads for popcorn, vegetables, baked potato, pizza slice, reheat
- Lockout feature
- Auto defrost
- Add 30 seconds touch pad
- Kitchen timer
- Sound on/off option
- Vent with high/low options
- Cooktop light with high/low options
This Amana microwave has a glass turntable inside so that everything cooks evenly. The door features a nice, wide, sturdy handle that you just pull to open, and push to close. No need to press a button to open the door.
The outer dimensions are 29 7/8" X 16 1/2" X 15".
~ My Experience
You should know that my microwave cooking needs are minimal. Mostly I use the microwave for reheating or cooking frozen food, popcorn, and the like.
I've found that the touchpad controls are intuitive and easy to use. I never had to consult the manual in order to use the microwave. This microwave has a heavy-duty "feel" to it; the door handle is sturdy, and overall it appears to be quality made with no loose parts or flimsy materials.
The interior seems plenty roomy, especially for my needs. The glass turntable easily lifts out for cleaning. The interior is easy enough to clean, and is similar to many microwaves in that respect.
The pre-set touch pads for popcorn, baked potatoes, etc. seem to work well, on the few occasions I've used them. Everything I've cooked or heated in this microwave comes out the way I like, and it seems to heat as evenly as any microwave can.
One thing - the vent on Hi is LOUD! really, really LOUD! My kitchen is near my living room, and if I've got the TV on I need to raise the volume in order to hear it when the microwave vent is on Hi. The low setting just isn't as effective, so I always use the Hi setting.
The cooktop light also has a Hi and Low setting, but the low is more like a night light, so when I'm cooking I'll always use the Hi setting. It does a good enough job of lighting up the cooktop.
The exterior is a shiny black, and cleans up beautifully. I've had not problems or complaints about the way this microwave cooks, and I'm happy with it.
~ Final Thoughts
The Amana UMV1152CA Microwave is a nice over-the-range model that looks stylish and cooks like a champ. It has all the features (except no convection option), a roomy interior, heats evenly, and is easy to use. My one and only complaint is that the vent on Hi is very loud. Other than that, I'm very pleased with this microwave.
