Guitar Hero III is a game I first played with my sister and niece, after playing for 2 hours I was addicted, and they had to leave with the game. This was a few nights before Christmas, and I HAD to have that game NOW. So, I game my husband those eyes that say pretty, pretty please, and he went for it. After calling 6 different stores we found that one store had a few games left and a guitar. We rushed there to get it right away in the mall, pushing through the crowds I felt like I was in one of those Christmas movies.
Anyway the addiction didnt wear off quickly. My husband and I played this game non-stop for about a week after buying it.
You can and should play through the career mode first. You will find you may have to start in easy mode as we did. Normal is actually quite hard. When playing through career mode, there is kind of a story behind it your part of a band, moving up through the ranks starting with playing in someones back yard and then playing for larger crowds and getting record deals. The first set of songs are rather easy including the easiest one of all Hit me with your best shot.
As you move through the game the songs do get harder even on easy mode in which you only have to use 3 of the 5 buttons. The harder ones include Metallicas One and Slayers Raining Blood some songs may seem impossible when you first try them out but just as for the real guitars practice makes perfect.
When playing through career mode you get challenges challenged by different legends of rock including Slash form Guns and Roses and Tom Morello form Rage against the Machine. Once you beat them, you unlock them and can buy them with the money you have made in career mode you can also unlock new guitars, costumes and songs in career mode that you can buy in the store so it is a very good idea to play through career modes first. Just as with the challenges you face in career mode against the legends you can compete against your friends.
Once you have unlocked all of the songs they will be available in free play. This is good for when you just wanna pick up the guitar and go with it. It is also great for when you have some friends coming over as this is a great game for groups of people. Its like the new karaoke (and it sounds a lot better, even when you fail)
You cant expect to pick up the guitar and be good expect to get booed a few times before you really get it. I can now play on normal mode, and my husband has moved onto hard mode which I just cant do without getting booed off stage.
The graphics are great and there are lots of characters to choose from even before you unlock or buy the extras. You will have your favorites of course. There are plenty of songs to play for all tastes. They have everything from The Rolling Stones Paint it Black to Smashing Pumpkins Cherub Rock and Irons Maidens The Number of the Beast.
There are also songs from more unknown artist which can be unlocked and played for fun. Im not really into many rock songs, but Ive found I like all of these songs a lot more after playing them on Guitar Hero I have a new appreciation for them.
You can pick up guitar Hero III for about $50.00, but you will need a guitar hero guitar as well though you can play it with a controller, its just not as much fun. Because Guitar Hero III is out for many systems, make sure you get the one for the system you own.
