And Life Goes On

Date of Review:  Jun 16, 2007
The Bottom Line: This book will give you a new outlook on life and the family time that we all sometimes just take for granted.
Review: As I was reading this book, I cried as I looked back on my own life. While my struggles were not near as horrific as David's, I saw some similarities. I also was in a large family where I was the only child who was the outcast. I, too, did not...

"IT"?? I = INSPIRATIONAL T = TROOPER OF DIGNITY!!

Date of Review:  Jul 27, 2001
The Bottom Line: I feel everyone should read these series of books. It would make us more sensitive to child abuse.
Review: A Child Called "It" is the first book in a three book Biography of a man named David Pelzer. This book is incredible!!! I myself am not much of a reader. When my honey recommended that I read it he told me that when I decide to read it to make sure...

Don't Turn The Other Way

Date of Review:  Jul 28, 2001
The Bottom Line: It will leave you with a nagging ache in your heart and an overwhelming desire to hug your children.
Review: This book was given to me by my mother, who highly recommended it. I had my doubts about reading it, especially since the topic was about child abuse. The mere mention of the phrase "child abuse" causes me to feel nauseous, so it took several weeks...

Fabulous Account of Experiencing Child Abuse

Date of Review:  Aug 26, 2001
The Bottom Line: An excellent book about child abuse through the eyes and words of the child who endured it.
Review: I had heard about Dave Pelzer and saw him on the Montel Williams Show. I had some knowledge of what I was in for when I read this book and its sequel "The Lost Boy".

I picked it up because it is true. This is a book of the actual events of...

A Horror Story

Date of Review:  Jun 8, 2000
Review: This book tells the story of Dave Pelzer and is a must read for anyone dealing with children or child abuse. It was definitely a fascinating read for me as a psychologist and I would recommend it to anyone working in the social sciences.

A Child Called "It".

Date of Review:  Oct 17, 2003
Review: The book had an excellent view point, allowing the reader to personally relate with the writer, feeling all the pain, anguish, and disgust. Even if you haven't experienced a situation this intense, each of us has a small part of our childhood we can...

Child Abuse from the Perspective of the Child

Date of Review:  Sep 1, 2000
Review: An amazing story of survival, that leaves the reader more aware of the kind of ugliness that goes on behind the closed doors of some homes and some of the ways that children reach out for help. The books is quite graphic and at times I had to put it...

Todays Tears

Date of Review:  Sep 13, 2000
Review: I know many of us wouldn't dream of hurting a child but this book shows us all how cruel and awful some people can be. When a mother hurts a child it is so much harder to understand.

This book does not answer the why of child abuse instead...

A shocking look at child abuse

Date of Review:  Sep 4, 2001
The Bottom Line: "We become aware of the child's cry through Dave's eyes, ears, and body." -Valerie Bivens,Social Worker
Review: During my senior year of high school, I was a library assistant. I picked up A Child Called It one day as I was shelving books and checked it out out of curiousity. I returned the book the very next day.

No, I didn't return the book...
