Cheap & Powerful but not very manageable.

decent ups. we got a slew of them plus the add on battery pack to run a small server rack (4 servers 3 routers, 1 powered/voip) cuz it was more cost effective (longer run time per dollar by about thrice) than getting a rack mount for the same price(or 3 rack mounts to achieve same run time. so basically, they work fine. each machine/device has a good hour of run time with a full load and our voip system as well. the only downside is the powerchute personal edition is fairly pathetic and doens't do much above what built in windows ups control can do. i tried using the apc powerchute business edition which includes not much more than personal (adds email/msg notification and can manage up to five clients) and guess what? although i see it flicker that it found the devices during the install process and names the model correctly, it won't actually allow you to connect/list the devices and/or thus manage them, or rather, the agent machines to which they are connected. apc is vague about NOT supporting certain models, or at least it is vague about whether these models are supported, but apparently if the software does not recognized them once installed and running, i would say they are not.... so for a business application in the future, i would not recommend these. actually, nor for home if you want any notification. i don't understand why apc doesn't just make their ups and software all work all the time. that would GREATLY improve my satisfaction and worry about mix/matching ups with a single software package across my networks instead of having 3 or 4 different versions to maintain all of which do different things....
