Give your palm a rest! No more banging those staples--do it automatically!

I got the most useless but just plain fun gift today! I’m leaving my job of 7-years and I was surprised today by our office supply vendor with a gift box—in it were some pens (the expensive kind we’re never allowed to buy) and a Swingline® Cordless Rechargeable Stapler. Yes, they make one! Can you believe it? Seems totally silly but I admit, it’s kind of fun. It’s on my new desk and I think of him when I use it. Would I buy one? For nearly $70, no! However, if I was in the market for a automatic stapler I’d certainly look at this model. Most automatic staplers are HUGE and rather ugly. This one is small (even with it recharging base) and looks more like a standard stapler.

It staples from 2-20 pages of 20# (regular copy paper weight) and will do up to 2000 staples before it needs to be recharged.

Unlike most rechargeable items this one came charged so I could try it out right away—I enjoyed that. There’s nothing worse than getting a new toy and finding out you have to let it charge for 24-hours before you can play with it.

Simple to load, there’s a button on the top, near the rear of the stapler—press it and the front loading piece pops out (mine stuck a bit so I banged it gently on the desk to get it going). I loaded the staple—regular office staples—and was happy joining everything on my desk to something else within a minute.

It’s small and lightweight and has an automatic trigger—stick something into it and it’ll staple. The outside molding has no moving parts and seems quite rugged. It has a small sliding plate so you can adjust how deep the staple will go into the center of the paper 1/4” to 1” from the edge of the paper.

Jams and changing are handled just like a regular stapler—no learning curve here. Charging is fast—just a few hours for a full charge of leave it in the base so it’s always ready. A light on the top tells you when you’re about to run out of staples (rather than having you shoot blanks—nice feature).

Who would need one? Anyone who staples large volumes of items like a newsletter or classroom handouts. It would also be great for those who suffer from repetitive motion problems and those who are disabled and don’t have the hand strength necessary to use a standard stapler.

Being cordless would allow you to work wherever you’d like—you’re not tied to an electrical outlet. It also staples sitting vertical or horizontal—your choice.

The base is about the size of my regular Swingline® stapler 6” long by 2” wide. The stapler sits on top of it and is about twice the size of a regular stapler but still comfortable to hold. It weighs about 1/2 a pound.

I enjoy it and hope to for years. A nice reminder of a nice gentleman I’ve enjoyed working with.
