Hunk'a'junk

Date of Review: Dec 21, 2005

The Bottom Line:  Hunk'a'junk
This model apparently shares much of the same chipsets as with one of the VTech phones (AT&T was more expensive). Similar menus, etc. But this is not a true 5.8Ghz, so the packaging is misleading, and explains the trouble we had with both (VTech and ATT). The specs say the base to handset frequency is on the 5.8Ghz band, BUT handset to base is 2.4Ghz. Sound quality is somewhat better than VTech, but the outgoing announcement mic is highly overdriven/distorted so you have to speak softly when recording it.

When on the phone, we sometimes get knocked off of it completely. It hangs up and resets. It's either because it's a piece of junk or because of Wi-Fi (wireless Ethernet/networking for the non-techies out there). We have a Belkin "Pre-N" (MIMO Pre-N standard... IEEE 802.11n) Wi-Fi, so instead of the phone interfering with Wi-Fi, it appears that it's the other way around from the post above. Thanks a lot, FCC, for a pathetic standard (or lack thereof) on these frequency bands. This is a perfect example of why frequencies should be regulated. If anyone has this model or similar, let me know where I can find a true 5.8 with good sound quality and features.
