Not your Show Truck Mag, Real 4x4

If you Off-Road you just can't get enough off-road magazines. A great magazine for the do-it-yourself and off-road enthusiasts.

Credentials: I've grown up wheeling in 4x4 trucks and Jeeps. Currently I build, break, repair, upgrade, and innovate on my 93' Jeep Wrangler (YJ). I'm also membership chairman for my local four wheel drive club, Fort Worth Dallas Four Wheel Drive. I support and belong to Southwest Four Wheel Drive Association and United Four Wheel Drive. Enough about me.

This magazine has a great format with hi-color photos and articles throughout. They cover projects and products from simple to extreme. I keep all my copies for reference. These articles are targeted mainly to the off-road rather than the street-cruiser. However, full size trucks to Jeeps and Samurais will all benefit from the wide array of articles and reviews. Auto industry news and trends, after market products, reader rides, Whoops!, land use news, as well as the after market products are covered each month. Editor Rick Pewe (former editor of JP magazine) has recently taken over the reigns and promises, as he puts it, more "real-world tech that you and I can afford, and a variety of trails and events that everyone can do and enjoy." Most importantly, they encourage reader input on the magazine's content and format.

The only drawback I have noticed is that occasionally they appear to share articles with another Petersen publication JP Magazine. JP is a Jeep dedicated magazine along the same format.

I've seen 4Wheel & Off-Road at most grocery and convenience stores as well as stores similar to Barnes & Noble. A web-search for 4Wheel & Off-Road Magazine will result in links allowing you to subscribe online. Currently, a year of monthly issues costs about $12. The last two years, Petersen has been offering issues of this magazine 2 for 1 allowing you to give a subscription to a friend at no cost.

At $1 per issue it's a steal.
