There isn't a parent in the world who would sometimes like to know some magic to get children to do as they want them to without the major hassles, arguments and fuss. Here is an excellent book to help keep the peace in the house. It gives parents concrete ways of dealing with situations that occur all the time in the lives of real people without yelling. It is as simple as 1-2-3! This book describes how to use expect behavior within the count of three. If the child doesn't listen or do what he is supposed to there are consequences he has to deal with.
After I read this book, I felt completely empowered with the tools to deal with the power struggles and tantrums of my 7 year old. I will say that consistency is the key to this method or any other. So you have to be ready for that to make it work. Also the parents have to be in agreement as to what the issues are to make this or any other system work. If you can be consistent and work on just a couple of behaviors at a time you probably will have great success using this method. I do think there is a danger of overusing this counting method. It is important to prioritize which things you specifically want to work on. As you have success you can work on other behaviors that need it. Also as stated in the book, you may have to reread this book or use it as a resource from time to time to reinforce the methods described.
