All aboard the Internet Express

This is my second attempt at upgrading from a 33.6k modem to 56k. My first attempt failed miserably using a 3Com 56K Winmodem PCI Faxmodem. I was utterly disappointed in that modem and with 3Com for putting out a sub-standard piece of equipment. Still, 3Com has been known as a standard for quite some time, so I decided to give them one last chance. I was thoroughly impressed with the 3Com 56K Faxmodem Internal.
The physical installation of the modem was a breeze. The modem is plug and play compatible making the software setup just as easy on my Windows 98 system. Within minutes I was up and connected to the Internet and catching up on a bit of email.
A very important feature that this modem has over my last nightmare (3Com 56K Winmodem PCI Faxmodem) is that most of the processing and functionality occur internal to the modem. It uses very little power from the CPU so slowdown of other applications and games is kept to minimum. This is very nice when running graphically intensive games like Star Trek Armada. You definitely don?t need things like a modem slowing down your destruction of a Klingon outpost.
I have yet to have any problems connecting and I always connect at relatively high speeds. 56k will never be as fast as my T1 connection at work, but it is definitely an improvement over my old 33.6k modem. For a 56k modem, page loading and file downloading are very quick and have yet to have any problems.
The 3Com 56K Faxmodem Internal is a bit pricey but is worth it. The installation and setup are very easy and the surfing speeds will not disappoint.
