Personnel: Ice-T (vocals); Jello Biafra (vocals); Ernie C (guitar); LLoyd (bass); Beat Master V (drums); Afrika Islam, Johnny "Sleepy John" Rivers (programming); Bronx Style Bob, Donald D. Recorded at Syndicate Studios West and Wide Tracks, Los Angeles, California. THE ICEBERG proved that Ice-T was more just than a "hardcore" or "gangsta" rapper. An appearance by Jello Biafra (of the punk group the Dead Kennedys) would certainly be out of place on many rap albums, but along with Ice-T's love of punk music and metal, it shows Ice-T's solidarity with another crusader for free speech. THE ICEBERG delves into the politics of power and free speech on "Shut Up, Be Happy" and "Freedom Of Speech," along with the rappers' trademark crime tales.

The Bottom Line: Ice-T's third album - The Iceberg/Freedom of Speech...Just Watch What You Say - is an unfairly overlooked masterpiece that is rap's most focused answer against censorship in the '80s
Review: The album cover is enough to know what to expect: A football cap-wearing black guy has two pistols pointed at both sides of his head and the barrel of a rifle stuffed in his mouth. And then there is the (literally) chilling bold letters hovering...
