Product Description

Modest Mouse: Isaac Brock, Eric Judy, Dann Gallucci, Benjamin Weikel. Additional personnel: Tom Peloso, The Flaming Lips, The Rising Star Fife And Drum Band, The Dirty Dozen Band. Recorded at Sweet Tea, Oxford, Mississippi. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band offers the opening fanfare for Modest Mouse's sixth full-length, GOOD NEWS FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE BAD NEWS, a fitting intro for the outfit's most majestic record to date. On their prior major-label recordings, the (formerly) indie icons opted for wandering, spacey arrangements to accompany Isaac Brock's magnificently obtuse poetics. GOOD NEWS revives the immediacy of the band's earlier releases, but furthers the production values (without too much polish), and out pours some of the most commanding pop-rock imaginable. The first single off of GOOD NEWS was the wonderfully catchy "Float On," with its syncopated, disco-like beat and Zen simplicity exemplified in the opening line "I backed my car into a cop car the other day. Well, he just drove off. Sometimes life...

Modest Mouse Demands "You Tell Me What You Want"

Date of Review:  Aug 9, 2004
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for some high quality off center pop, why don't you check out Modest Mouse--you won't be disappointed.
Review: It has taken until now for me to realize that maybe music is headed in the right direction. Of course, I can't speak to the dire nature of mainstream songs and bands on radio and MTV without cringing, but as far as new albums go of the last year...

"life handed us a paycheck, we said 'we worked harder than this!'"

Date of Review:  Dec 16, 2004
The Bottom Line: Americans have always been confident complainers, ready to move or invent someplace new. It';s our weakness, greatness, and charm. But we haven';t always sung of it so thoughtfully and courageously.
Review: While it disappoints me that only two of the first 25 Epinions on Modest Mouse's Good News for People who Love Bad News give the album five stars, it intrigues me that no one's accusing it of being a "sell-out". It _isn't_, of course, but it has the...

Good News for People Who Love Good Pop Songs

Date of Review:  May 2, 2004
The Bottom Line: An above average album that doesn't try to be something it's not and sometime's that involves being something that already exists.
Review: Now, for some, this change in direction for Modest Mouse is for the worse; it's "selling out" It's an attempt to get into the mainstream and make some $$$. I like to think of it a slightly different way. It's successfully bringing good, quality...
