Product Description

Written by Neil Gaiman, the critically acclaimed author of the SANDMAN comic series and the novel AMERICAN GODS, MARVEL 1602 is just what its title says it is. It posits what would happen if Marvel's greatest heroes (the X-Men, Spider-Man, Daredevil, the Fantastic Four, and so on) existed in 1602. Although their positions in society may seem slightly unfamiliar to Marvel fans (Daredevil as a spy posing as a minstrel, Captain America as a Native American warrior, the Thing as a sea captain, etc.) their duty remains the same: to save the world from destruction. The full-color art has a more delicate, painterly feel than the usual splashy look of most Marvel books, giving the book the look of a great historical epic. This graphic novel collects all eight parts of the series, originally published as single-issue comics. Additionally, the book contains an afterword by Gaiman, the original script for the first issue, and pencil sketches of some of the key characters and scenes.

Neil Gaiman + Marvel Universe = 1602

Date of Review:  Dec 21, 2004
The Bottom Line: Wonder what your favorite Marvel heroes would have been like in Europe four centuries ago? Wonder no further. Neil Gaiman has brought them to life in a new way.
Review: Neil Gaiman is best known as the creator of the Sandman series of graphic novels and as a tongue-in-cheek sci-fi/fantasy writer. His creations have sold millions of copies around the world and have earned the British writer a dedicated cult...

1602: History is better with Super Heroes!

Date of Review:  Mar 31, 2008
The Bottom Line: Neil Gaiman is a literary genius. Only he could have pulled off something so strange and wonderful.
Review: 1602 Written by Neil Gaiman, Illustrated by Andy Kubert.

There is a theory that many events must conjoin to make anything worthwhile happen. There is another theory that there are great motifs that repeat themselves over and over.

A bit slow getting its feet under it.

A noble experiment in comickery

Date of Review:  May 13, 2005
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended for intelligent comic readers, or those who believe comics have no redeeming value.
Review: I never think about it too much, but I'm a Marvel kinda guy. The double initial thing (Peter Parker, Matt Murdock, etc) bugs the crap out of me, but I'll blame Stan Lee for that and keep my complaints to myself.

I'd passed this comic buy...
