I recently purchased a Gregory Whitney backpack from ebags.com using Google Checkout. The website offered the manufacturers sizing information, the price was outstanding, the transaction went smooth, and shipping was extremely fast.
However this is where my praise ends; the backpack was a 2004 model bag (I purchased it in late 2007). Gregory makes improvements to their bags almost every year so this is a fairly big deal. It was still new and not used or defective, but the condition of the box definitely showed the signs of being thrown around a warehouse for 3 years.
No mention was made by the seller that I was purchasing a 3 year old model, and I even went back to try to find it somewhere I may have missed. In my opinion this is a pretty shady business practice since consumers tend to expect they are getting up to date merchandise.
I checked and the improvements made since 2004 were negligible when taking into account the good price. So I kept the bag. In hind sight I guess I should have wondered how they could afford to sell the item $40 cheaper then anyone else on the internet. I would just recommend others be wary of getting outdated merchandise from this seller.
