First...the scooter arrived in the box in a condition that was comparable to surviving a World War. The box had been smashed and had dents in it, but I don't blame US.com for who ships their stuff. However the fact that the fuses came in a little plastic sandwich baggie and were completely powderized by the shipping process did not make me happy. It might not be their fault if the package arrives in a sorry state but HOW they package their stuff inside to protect it (or in this case NOT protect it) IS their fault.
Second...I read the directions, which called for the scooter to be charged 7-8 hours prior to use, which I did. Then I took the plunge and tried using it to get to work...big mistake. My work is a little over 2 miles away, well within the 10 mile range on the specifications page. For the first half mile it had decent speed. The second half mile it was going as fast as someone running. The third half mile it was going as fast as someone walking fast. I ended up walking beside it while it pulled me along a little by the time I finally arrived at work...late.
Third. After recharging it (which oddly enough only took FOUR hours to recharge supposedly empty batteries) it performed much better...but I still don't think it was going the 23mph speed which was stated it could obtain. When it takes 15 minutes to go 2.5 miles that tells me the scooter is going 10mph...and I was far from exceeding the weight limit of the scooter (more like I'm half the weight limit).
Fourth. After only a few days usage the seat fell apart. Yeah! For a couple days in a row the seat would suddenly fall back and I'd find myself sitting up in a hurry. Taking a couple wrenches to the seat to tighten it were helpful, for a while, but finally after one particular incident and subsequent attempt at tightening the seat further the damn thing fell apart. Now I don't even have the OPTION to sit down.
Fifth. When I called and asked about getting a refund I was told due to the "low profit margin" the company earns on their scooters I would be subject to a 15% restocking fee (down from the normal 30%) PLUS I would be responsible for paying shipping charges. That translates to me losing around $100 on an investment of $400 just because they couldn't send me a F-ing scooter that worked properly! In addition they said they also encouraged people to work with the tech support so that replacement parts would be sent out free of charge in reference to what was wrong in hopes of reaching a resolution...except for the batteries...apparently I need to pay for shipping to send the batteries back to the manufacturer.
Sixth. Did I mention I've only had this scooter FIVE days? Today is 06/16/2008...and I got this on the 11th. I do NOT recommend this company to ANYONE! I HAVE to work with the tech support to get this thing working properly because, if I don't, that means I WASTED over $100!
