I think Skype is wonderful. It's free, it works, it's very straightforward. So recently I decided to use it instead of a landline. Getting a phone number and paying for minutes was easy - although I note that other posters have had trouble with this.
My problem lay in buying an "internet phone wizard".
I ordered it from Skypemart and asked for two-day delivery.
The site does not list any information on exactly what 2- or 3-day delivery meant. It turned out that they sent it via FedEx and required a signature.
They wouldn't reroute it or leave it w/o a signature (FedEx policies) and I had no intention of either taking a day off of work or paying for a car service to the FedEx office so that I could get the package - kind of obviates the idea of delivery.
So I let FedEx return it.
My first concern is the utter lack of information on their website regarding shipping.
Even worse, though, is the fact that "customer service" has been nonexistent. Mistakes happen, okay. But respond to my email! And my personal favorite? The address "customerservice@skypemart.com" is a dummy address that rejects mail! It's actually funny. But also very frustrating.
Ordinarily I love Skype, but this experience has really left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. The online part of Skype gets 5 stars. The Service part gets 2 stars. I would recommend this to friends - but with a warning.
The best news - I will work with my credit card company to cancel this charge in its entirety and I found the same product - for less money - at newegg.com. I have bought from them before and am very pleased with them.
