Having lived in northern New Jersey most of my life, I was blessed with a Macy's store 10 minutes from my house. When I moved to south Florida 2 years ago, I was in for a big disappointment when I realized the closest Macy's to me was 40 minutes away, and in for an even bigger shock when I finally got to shop at the Macy's and saw it was only a small portion of the size of the Macy's I was so used to in Jersey. So I turned to their website www.macys.com to use my gift card at, since I knew I wasn't going to be visiting the Macy's here anytime soon.

I first came across macys.com quite some ago and I must have registered with their site to recieve emails. Every few weeks or so I receive an email alerting me of some pretty good sales they have on their web site. Some of the clearance prices they'd advertise were out of this world and almost to good to be true. Each time I'd receive an email, I'd just have to click and go look at what was new and on sale at macys.com. You do not need to be registered to browse their site or see what prices are being offered. You only need to register when you are placing an order. You don't even have to register to receive emails, you just need to enter your email address.

Macys.com

Macys.com offers plenty of the same perks that the brick & mortar offers. You have a bridal registry available on site and it is a cinch to search for someones registry. The registry will tell you what the person registered for, how many of each item, and what is purchased and not purchased off of the registry.

The site also has different departments just like the store. You have women, men, jewelry, beauty, for the home, sales, and gifts. When you click on a department you will be given another menu of what area you'd like to visit in that department. If you were to choose womens department, then you can opt for checking out pants, lingerie, bags, shoes, skirts, cosmetics, and the sales.

I had received a gift card quite some time ago and kept checking out the different sales that were being offered on macys.com. For the last 6 months each time I found something good and decided to add it to my shopping cart, I was given the dreaded message that the item was no longer available. I could see the item not being available because the sale price they were offering the item at was practically a steal.

A few weeks ago, I needed a new iron and decided I'll just use my gift card on the site to purchase a new iron. I didn't care if it was on sale or not, and of course the irons were not on sale. I browsed through their selections and found their prices to be the same as the brick & mortar prices. I found the iron I wanted and added it to my shopping cart and proceeded to check out. Checking out was a cinch. I was given the option of having the item delivered some place else if it was a gift, and I had no problems using my gift card on the site. At the end of my order, it even told me what my balance was on the gift card. You are allowed to pay for shipping/tax with your gift card. Unlike other online stores which do not allow you to use the gift card for shipping costs.

Shortly after placing my order, I received an email with a confirmation number and telling me when they estimated my item would be shipped. I had placed the order on a Monday and the email said it would be shipped out on the following Friday. I thought that was a little long to wait for shipping, but it turns out they shipped it out on Wednesday and it arrived via UPS ground on Friday.

Shipping

There were different shipping methods to choose from and the faster you want the item, the more money you will pay. I chose UPS ground which was in the $6.00 range, but they also have 1 day, 2 day, and overnight deliveries available if you are in a big rush.

Overall Recommendations

I really like browsing macys.com especially to see what is on sale. The only problem I have with the site is most of the time the sale item I want is out of stock and they do not offer rain checks. I'm sure if I were to check their site everyday for the new sales then I'd be sure to steal one of the sale items. But since I rely mostly on the emails alerting me to the sales, they are usually all gone before I get a chance to get in on the good deal.

I had no problems shopping at macys.com and would recommend shopping their site if you are a fan of the macy's brick & mortar.
