I have been shopping at Land's End for years but during those years I have only shopped for a limited range of items. I have tried lots of different stores for my chinos and turtlenecks but keep coming back to Land's End.
During all the years I have shopped with Land's End, I used the catalog (what else?). I looked through the catalog, marked the things I wanted and called and placed my order. It was easy and quick and within a few days of ordering my new clothes turned up at my door. However, in recent years I have done a lot less shopping through the marvelous world of mail order. On line shopping is convenient and gives me far better selections than the catalogs ever did.
Very recently I ordered a new pair of chinos and took particular note of the on line shopping experience.
I like the way this site is laid out. You have your home page with tabs for the different departments and you can click on a tab or type in what you are searching for. I went with the tabs. Once you get to the desired area of interest, you can then narrow your focus (ex. skirts, tops, blouses, sweaters, etc.).
I was looking for chinos so I clicked on trousers for women and looked at a selection under that heading. Once I clicked on the flat front trousers, I was presented with a color selection. I clicked on the color and size I wanted and put the trousers in my "cart".
Once I had everything I wanted in the cart, I proceeded to check out. I filled in my address, shipping preference, credit card information and gift certificate number and was presented with a receipt that I can print out (with a further notice of my purchase sent to my e-mail address). The whole thing took me a little more than five minutes, which was what I was looking for on this shopping trip. (I know I can spend lots of time on the site if I want to but I was in a bit of a hurry.)
Now I am sure you are wondering if there were any difficulties that slowed me down. There were but it wasn't the on line store's fault. While I was shopping, I was given the option of having my new trousers sent to me already hemmed (an EXCELLENT service). Of course I couldn't remember the inseam length and had to go check that (not their fault). Also, the post office insists on having the additional four digit number on my zip code which I can never remember so the site dug that up for me and added it in.
I wasn't sure about using the gift certificate but there was a specific area for adding the needed information before they asked for my credit card info and that couldn't have been easier.
I have never returned anything from the on line store but know that Land's End is great about returns and problems and can't imagine that it would be harder when dealing with the on line store.
I will continue to shop at Land's End for some of the staples in my closet. I will use the catalog for reference but from now on I'll be using the on line store for buying.
