Cheap and Cool? Maybe...

I don't like to shop. What is a treat to my wife is a chore to me. But I like stuff as much as the next guy, and even an occasional new shirt. So what I needed was a place to find things quick, at a good price (I'm cheap, too), and without a parking lot, lines, crowds, or predatory sales clerks. Sounds like a tall order to fill...

But then I stumbled across gap.com. I never considered myself "cool" enough to be a Gap customer, and assumed the prices were out of my cheap-reach. But to my surprise, the sales at Gap.com are really considerable, and it's easy to find things that look good (maybe even cool?) at reasonable prices.

The selection, considering the entire site, is good. But I mainly limit myself to the sale items. That selection is average, but again, I have to remember that these are just the sale items.

Detail provided about each item is good. One can easily see a larger size of the items, and the sizes seem to be pretty accurate so far.

Shipping fees are typical for an online clothing site, which I think are too high. Often, Gap.com offers free shipping, but only if one buys more than $75 or $100.

The site is pretty easy to maneuver. One annoying glitch is that even when an item is sold out, it still shows up on as an option until you click "add to cart," when you are then told that the item isn't available. A few too many times of that happening gets frustrating.

A word about shipping timeliness. I've ordered from gap.com about 4 times, and 3 of the 4 I received fast shipping. On 1, though, it was very, very late. Customer service addressed my concern, though, and offered a discount on a future purchase.

Gap.com also offers a price guarantee. If the item goes on sale within two weeks after you order, they will refund the difference. They are very strict on this two-week window, though. I missed it by a couple of days last month, and they wouldn't budge.

The clothes I have ordered have been of good quality and well-made. They shrink less than lesser quality manufacturers, and the material feels more durable.

I'm an expert on cheap, but not on cool. So I can give my endorsement of Gap.com as a place to find low priced items (as long as you stick to the sale area). As far as being cool, well, I'll leave that to someone else to determine.
