I've ordered several used books through
Amazon.com Marketplace, and have been happy with my purchases. I've been an
eBay customer for several years, but am an infrequent bidder due to a recent credit card scare that may have originated at eBay or Paypal.
I've been an
Amazon.com customer since 1999, so I felt comfortable ordering from Marketplace sellers. The majority of my online Marketplace purchases have been out-of-print cookbooks (generally ex-library copies) and a cross stitch book.
Before choosing a Marketplace seller, I read each seller's feedback carefully; I generally try to order from sellers with a 97% positive rating or higher, even if it means paying a little more. With one exception, all items were exactly as described, except for an ex-library book listed as unmarked, but several pages featured extensive underlining in pencil (however, you would have had to go page by page to see it). Because I only paid $3.50 for the book, I didn't let it mar my enjoyment of it and didn't mark the seller down for the oversight. On another occasion, a seller had listed the wrong book (by the same author, but with a similar title) and shipped it by mistake; she offered to refund me, but I decided to keep the book and thanked her for her time (the proceeds went to a handicapped charity).
Overall, I've had positive experiences with
Amazon Marketplace sellers and products, and would recommend them to anyone considering eBay (they're backed by
Amazon.com's guarantee, and you're paying through Amazon, not the seller).
