A blend of 58% Zinfandel, 22% Carignane, 18% Petite Syrah and 2% Mataro. Winter quickly came and went, leaving vines short on rain, but in good shape to begin an early growing season. A mild summer moderated the pace of ripening, allowing color and flavor to intensify. Mid-August heat accelerated maturation, and we harvested at ideal ripeness from late August through September. Parcels and sub-parcels fermented on natural yeasts in fifty small tanks. As we blind-tasted over ensuing months, Geyserville's unique character seemed clearest in thirty-nine of lots. exceptional quality of Carignane and Petite Sirah argued for their full inclusion; percentages are comparable to superb 1991 vintage. By year's end, blend was aging in air-dried american oak barrels. Sensuous structure and opulent fruit give this fine wine immediate appeal. A blend of 84.1% Zinfandel, 9.2% Petite Sirah 4.9% Syrah, 1.3% Grenache, .3% Merlot and .1% Barbera. 2007 Mendocino is a little different from past vintages. Instead of being dominated by cherry aromas, this leans more towards a mixed bowl of berries. other interesting point is an aroma like a rustic mountain cabin with fresh red meat and spices being prepared for dinner and then freshly baked wild berry pies for dessert - of course wood stove damper is not working well so there is a little smoke in room... tannins are soft and supple, but acidity comes through with a bit more acid structure than in past vintages and stays with you till cows come home. We always add a little Syrah and Petite Sirah for mid palate, filling in hole of donut, but this year it is a little more pronounced in flavors and aromas, hence gamey and meatiness underneath all mixed fruits. 2006 vintage was marked by a long ripening season with temperate weather which gave the grapes ample hang time on vine. This extra period of ripening allowed flavor of grapes to fully develop. Harvested in late September to mid October each vineyard lot was picked at peak of flavor and then fermented separately in stainless steel tanks before ageing separately in American and French oak barrels for 18 months. Just prior to bottling, lots were blended to create a wine with intense blackberry jam flavors and delightful spicy notes. 2006 vintage of Sonoma County Zinfandel is enjoyable now but should continue to improve with cellar ageing. Our Sonoma County Zinfandel is delicious with grilled meats, rich tomato-based dishes and spicy ethnic cuisine.

Every year I search for best Zinfandel fruit that Alexander Valley produces and that is what goes into our Snake Eyes Zinfandel. This year honor has been bestowed upon Nancy Ellis Dalziel, 5th generation owner of Ellis RanChateau This 70- year-old vineyard tends to be low yielding, with small clusters and berries that create a highly concentrated wine with rich color. Our 2005 Snake Eyes Zinfandel spent 20 months in French (68%) and American (32%) oak barrels and has flavors of black raspberry and blackberry jam. While wine drinks great now, it also has strong tannins that make it suitable for aging. This is a big wine that doesn't back down to big flavors. Serve with slow-roasted baby back ribs or blackened fish.
